Bureau des pleurs
I produced this video as a part of the collective project Bureau des pleurs, for the 15th Lyon Biennale 2019-2020: Là où les eaux se mèlent. The Bureau des pleurs (by Carla Adra, Romain Bobichon, Fatma Cheffi, Sophie T. Lvoff, Lou Masduraud, Irène Mélix et Maha Yammine and François Piron), with its slogan « we know the future of this place », inhabits an old administrative office of Fagor the abandoned factory that is hosting the biennale. It invests the recent history of the place with projections into new poetic and political functions.
Du Balai confronts the viewer with his condition of an observer, consuming banal gestures with a promise of an eventual meaning. It breaks the silence of this surveillance mirror left after the closure of the factory. What is visible through the mirror here, is not the usual production, but a distracted body of a woman smoking a cigarette and pushing the thick layer of dust with her broom.
